At the Cults Library Trust, we believe that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults across all our activities, events, and programmes.
Safeguarding is not just a policy - it is part of our culture and our values as a community organisation.
We recognise the vital importance of protecting those who may be at risk of harm or neglect.
Our trustees, staff, and volunteers all share a duty of care to ensure that:
Everyone who engages with the Trust feels safe, respected, and supported.
Concerns are identified and reported promptly and appropriately.
Policies and procedures are followed consistently and in line with current legislation.
We work to promote wellbeing, prevent harm, and respond effectively if concerns arise.
The Trust ensures that all safeguarding practices are regularly reviewed and kept up to date with:
Scottish and UK safeguarding legislation
National guidance from bodies such as Volunteer Scotland and the Scottish Government
Local authority procedures and expectations
Trustees and volunteers are made aware of their responsibilities and receive guidance and training appropriate to their role.
We review and update our safeguarding policies annually or whenever new statutory guidance is introduced.
To ensure transparency and accountability, our safeguarding framework includes two key policies:
📘 Child Protection Policy
Outlines how we protect and promote the welfare of children and young people involved in our services, events, or educational programmes.
📗 Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy
Sets out how we safeguard adults who may be vulnerable or at risk, ensuring they are treated with dignity, respect, and care.
(Links will open the most recent approved versions of each policy.)
If you ever have a concern about the welfare or safety of a child, young person, or vulnerable adult connected with the Cults Library Trust, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead at
📧 cultslibrary@gmail.com
All concerns will be handled sensitively, promptly, and in line with our safeguarding procedures.
Safeguarding is not just about policies - it’s about people.
By working together with our volunteers, local partners, and community members, we aim to build a library and community space where everyone can learn, connect, and thrive safely.
