Volunteer With Us

Cults Library Trust is rooted in the belief that strong communities are built by people who are willing to contribute their time, skills and experience for the benefit of others. As we work to bring Cults Library back into community use, volunteers will be central to creating a welcoming, safe and purposeful hub for Cults, Bieldside, Milltimber and the wider area.

Our work is shaped by our values of respect, curiosity, community, lifelong learning, excellence, inclusivity and sustainability. These values sit alongside our three core pillars of Community, Education and Wellbeing, which guide the activities, services and opportunities we want the library to provide.

​

We want volunteering with the Trust to be meaningful, well organised and worthwhile for everyone involved. We also understand that people’s time commitments vary. Some volunteers may be able to help regularly, while others may only be able to support occasional events, specific projects or specialist tasks. All contributions are valued.

​

At this stage, some volunteer roles are available now and are open for applications. Other opportunities are listed for expressions of interest, as we expect to need further volunteer support as the Community Asset Transfer progresses and the building moves closer to reopening.

Current and Future Volunteer Opportunities

Below you will find roles we are actively recruiting for, alongside areas where we are gathering interest ahead of the next stage of the project.

Treasurer (Volunteer)

  • Role overview: Oversees the Trust’s finances, financial records, reporting and budgeting at board level.

  • Helpful experience: Finance, accounting, charity finance or bookkeeping experience would be useful.

IT & Digital Board Officer (Volunteer)

  • Role overview: Supports the Trust with digital systems, website updates, email, files and basic IT planning.

  • Helpful experience: Confidence with digital tools, websites or basic IT systems would be useful.

Marketing Volunteer

  • Role overview: Helps promote the Trust’s work through social media, newsletters, posters, photography, website updates and local communications.

  • Helpful experience: Marketing, communications, social media experience would be useful.

Building & Facilities Steward (Volunteer)

  • Role overview: Helps oversee the building, facilities, practical tasks and safe day-to-day use of the space.

  • Helpful experience: Building, maintenance, facilities or practical experience would be useful.

Library Services Volunteer

  • Role overview: Supports visitors, helps with library activity and assists with the smooth running of the library space.

  • Helpful experience: A friendly, reliable approach is most important; library experience is welcome but not essential.

Learning & Education Volunteer

  • Role overview: Helps deliver learning activities, reading support, workshops and educational sessions.

  • Helpful experience: Education, tutoring, youth work or learning support experience would be useful.

Gardening & Outdoor Space Volunteer

  • Role overview: Helps maintain and improve the library’s outdoor areas and community garden spaces.

  • Helpful experience: Gardening, outdoor work or practical experience would be useful.

Community Events Volunteer

  • Role overview: Supports events, talks, workshops, fundraisers and community activities.

  • Helpful experience: Event, hospitality, community or organisational experience would be useful.

Fundraising & Grants Volunteer

  • Role overview: Helps research funders, prepare applications and support fundraising campaigns.

  • Helpful experience: Writing, research, fundraising or grant experience would be useful.

Young Volunteer

  • Role overview: For under-18s who would like to support the Trust in a suitable volunteer role, with appropriate supervision and guidance.

  • Helpful experience: No previous experience is needed; enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to help are most important.
