Cults Library Trust takes safeguarding seriously. We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming and respectful environment for everyone who uses, volunteers with or supports the Trust.

Our work is guided by our core purpose of building a community-owned hub for community, education and wellbeing. Safeguarding is an important part of that responsibility, particularly as our activities may involve children, young people, families, older people and adults who may be at risk of harm.

The Trust has a Safeguarding Coordinator and a Deputy Safeguarding Coordinator to help oversee safeguarding practice, respond to concerns and support volunteers and trustees in following the correct procedures.

We have separate safeguarding policies for:

• Children and young people

• Adults at risk / vulnerable adults

Our approach is informed by relevant Scottish legislation and guidance, including the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007, and the wider safeguarding responsibilities placed on charities and voluntary organisations in Scotland. The PVG scheme helps ensure people unsuitable for regulated roles with children or protected adults cannot do those roles, while adult protection law supports the protection of adults who are unable to safeguard themselves from harm.
